Don't Like Where Price Is? Just Wait… It'll Move
Posted: Wednesday June 24, 2026
This ES futures morning briefing opens on the single most underrated skill in day trading… patience. Price is coiled up tight, a big move is inbound, and the temptation to force something is at its peak. The lesson? If you don't like where price is, just wait. It'll change. We recap yesterday's near-100-point morning, break down how the three-contract system lets you peel, trail, and add, and map exactly where we'll trade today — longs only, until we ladder lower. With PCE and GDP landing tomorrow, today is about discipline over action.
TIP OF THE DAY — IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHERE PRICE IS, WAIT
When the Battle Plan mappings are built, the levels sit in different locations on the chart. Sometimes price opens nowhere near them. New traders force a trade anyway. Don't.
ES will move. It always does. It'll travel to a different location… perhaps one offering a far better, pre-planned opportunity. Your job is to wait for price to come to YOUR level, not to chase price into no-man's-land.
Trader Lesson 1
If you don't like where price is, just wait. It'll move to a different location… often one that offers a cleaner, pre-mapped setup. Patience IS the edge.
YESTERDAY'S TRADE REVIEW — A NEAR 100-POINT MORNING
Yesterday delivered a textbook two-sided session. First, a beautiful short worth a 90 to almost 100 point move… depending on how late you were willing to be up at night to catch it. Then the flip.
Why take profit on the short right there? Because we had another trade waiting… a long, taken live on YouTube. That's the chess. You don't just exit, you exit INTO your next mapped idea.
- Peel contracts: Scale out of the position as the move extends, locking in gains.
- Trail your stop: Move the stop up to capture that final 50-point leg on the runner.
- The 60-point option: Banking at 60 on the short plus the long gave you a complete 100-point morning on the three-contract system.
- Add to winners: We even mapped where you could ADD to the long as it worked.
There's a full YouTube breakdown of exactly how we traded it — worth the watch.
Trader Lesson 2
Manage the move, don't just take it. Peel contracts, trail your stop for the final leg, and ADD to winners. The three-contract system turns one trade into a full morning.
THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO BUILD A TRADER
This isn't a system built to chase trades. It's crafted to build a trader. The whole philosophy is fewer, higher-quality, pre-planned, well-thought-out, risk-first, laser-tight entries… playing perfect chess.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
- Where do we go long? Where do we go short? Those locations are mapped before the bell. When price gets there, we trade… if we're awake.
- Hold a lotto runner: Keep a speculative contract on to capture the bigger, extended moves.
- Add to winning trades: Pyramid into strength at pre-defined spots.
- Journal your progress: Refine your trade plan, analyze your behavioral patterns, scrutinize your performance.
- Same process, every day, with perfect patience: That's how you become the trader you were meant to be.
Trader Lesson 3
Take fewer, higher-quality, pre-planned, risk-first entries… then journal them. The Core Strategy isn't built to win one trade — it's built to build YOU.
OVERNIGHT & CURRENT READ — COILED UP TIGHT
Overnight? Not a whole lot. There were a couple of opportunities… we bounced at the exact locations of two ideal entries. But the timing was brutal. One sat right as Asia opened, and taking a trade into the Asia open is a difficult ask. A beautiful bounce off the strong level for anyone willing to take the label location long.
Right now, the read is simple: we are coiled up tight. A big move is inbound. Which way will Humpty Dumpty fall? Draw the overnight trend line and you can see yesterday's short and the long that was mapped for last night sitting right where we are.
Today's plan:
- Longs only, for now: This is an area of the chart where the bias favors longs. We want price to come back down, explore, and offer a ladder-back move.
- The ladder line matters: If we ladder underneath this low, the bias changes. We'll then hunt Battle Plans considerably lower… around the 7361 region.
- Trade it live: Either way, we'll trade it together when price reaches a mapped level.
Trader Lesson 4
When price coils tight, a big move is inbound. Trade only where your plan says… longs above the level, and a ladder-back below flips the bias lower. Let the level pick the trade.
NEWS DRIVERS & THE WEEK AHEAD
The calendar shows no major scheduled events for the open, but there's a yellow-folder item to respect, and the real show lands tomorrow.
| Date | Event | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Today (+30 min) | New Home Sales | Yellow-folder release ~30 minutes after the open. Can inject volatility into an otherwise quiet calendar — pay attention. |
| Tomorrow | PCE & GDP | The show for the week. PCE is the Fed's preferred inflation gauge — a major potential market mover. |
| End of week | Sentiment & Expectations | Rounds out the week and frames the consumer outlook. |

COMMON QUESTIONS FOR ES FUTURES TRADERS
What does it mean when ES futures are "coiled up tight"?
A: It means price is trading in a tight, compressed range with no clear direction yet — buyers and sellers are in balance. This compression typically precedes a large expansion move. The takeaway for traders is to stay patient and wait for price to break and reach a pre-mapped key level rather than guessing the direction early.
Why should I wait instead of trading when price isn't near my levels?
A: Because forcing a trade into an area you haven't planned is how accounts bleed. ES futures are always moving, and price will eventually travel to one of your mapped Battle Plan locations that offers a cleaner, risk-first entry. Waiting for price to come to your level is a discipline, not a delay.
What is the three-contract system in ES/MES futures trading?
A: It's Micros Trader's core position-sizing framework using three contracts (or micro equivalents) so you can scale a single trade. You peel off contracts to lock in profit as the move extends, trail your stop to protect gains, and hold one runner for the larger move — turning one good entry into a complete morning.
What is a lotto runner?
A: A lotto runner is a speculative, low-probability final contract you hold after scaling out of the rest of your position. The risk is already covered by the contracts you banked, so the runner is "house money" that lets you capture an outsized, extended move if the trend keeps going.
What does "ladder back" mean and why does it matter today?
A: A ladder-back move is a sequential pullback that lets price re-test a level so you can scale or re-enter at better prices. Today the bias is longs while price holds above the key low — but if price ladders underneath that low, the bias flips and the Battle Plan targets shift considerably lower, toward the 7361 area.
What is a Strong Level in the Micros Trader system?
A: A Strong Level is a high-conviction, pre-mapped price location where a meaningful reaction is expected. When price bounces off a Strong Level — like the beautiful overnight bounce noted in this session — it can offer a label-location entry with tightly defined risk.
Why is taking a trade at the Asia session open difficult?
A: The Asia open often brings a shift in liquidity and fresh participants, which can make price action erratic right at that moment. A bounce at your level can still be valid, but the timing around a session open raises the difficulty and the risk, so many traders prefer to wait for confirmation.
How does PCE affect ES futures this week?
A: PCE is the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, and it lands tomorrow alongside GDP. A surprise in either direction can trigger a large, fast move in S&P 500 futures, so plan position size and risk accordingly and respect the elevated volatility around the release.
Why does Micros Trader focus on fewer, higher-quality entries?
A: Because the system is built to develop a disciplined trader, not to chase action. Taking fewer, pre-planned, risk-first, laser-tight entries — and journaling each one — reduces mistakes, sharpens your behavioral patterns, and compounds into long-term consistency far better than overtrading.
