Position Sizing for Futures: No Single Trade Should Hurt You
Ask long-term traders the number one problem with newer traders and you get one answer… sizing. George's Leverage Metrics turn your daily loss limit and your stop size into an exact contract count, so no single trade can ruin your day.
From the free MicrosTrader Trading Library… 140 lessons mined from 1,042 live ES and MES futures sessions taught since 2018.
Position sizing in futures means deriving your contract count from two numbers you set in advance: your daily loss limit and the stop size the trade requires. George calls the resulting table your Leverage Metrics. Sized this way, a full stop-out on any single trade stays small enough that it can never hit your daily loss limit… and that changes everything about how you enter.
This page pulls together everything George teaches about sizing ES E-mini futures and MES micro futures across years of live sessions… the Leverage Metrics math, the drawdown division for micros, sizing to survive losing streaks, and why the whole system exists to protect you from yourself.
“"No single trade should be able to hurt me. How much leverage should you enter a trade with? The amount that you know it cannot hurt you… where that one trade will not ruin your day, that one trade will not hit your daily loss limit. That's the leverage."”

Why Sizing Comes Before Everything Else
What kills more trading accounts than any bad setup, missed level, or blown entry? Oversizing. George puts it at the top of the list every time someone asks what separates traders who survive from traders who vanish.
The warning carries teeth: "a trader who can't trade with proper sizing probably won't be a trader long" (June 26, 2026). Overleveraging hurts you more than any other mistake in day trading… "Nothing's going to hurt you more than overleveraging" (June 19, 2026).
“"Size properly. Size is everything. If you ask long-term traders what's the number one problem with newer traders… they don't size properly."”
