Stop Loss Placement in Futures: Know Where You're Wrong

Every trade has a price that proves the idea dead. Find it before you enter… that's where your stop goes. And you always, always have one in.

From the free MicrosTrader Trading Library… 140 lessons mined from 1,042 live ES and MES futures sessions taught since 2018.

Stop loss placement comes down to one question: where are you wrong? Every trade thesis has a price that kills it. In ES E-mini futures, that price sits behind structure… under the low you expect to hold, beyond the Strong Level you entered from. Put your stop there, and the market itself tells you when to leave.

This page collects everything George teaches about stops across years of live ES and MES micro futures sessions… why a stop protects every single entry, how to place it behind real structure instead of picking a random number, and why the professionals treat stop-outs as an insurance premium on their trading business.

“"So you enter a trade, long or short… where are you wrong? You better know, 'cause guess what, that's probably where your stop should be."”

ES futures Battle Plan chart from George’s published record

From George’s published record: ES & MES Futures Trade Plan #336 — a 50+-point move, mapped in advance.

Always Have a Stop In. Always.

Rule one comes before placement, before sizing, before anything. Never sit in a futures trade without a protective stop working. Anything can happen at any second… and in the ES, "anything" arrives fast.

How fast? George warns that the ES "can move 30 to 60 points in 3 to 6 minutes" (January 20, 2025). And the tail risk runs bigger than that. After one violent session he put it plainly:

“"You have to trade with a stop. Always. Always, always. Your internet could go out. Your mouse could stop working. Trump could make a tweet. Never, ever enter a trade without a stop. Ever."”

— George, live session, Apr 16, 2026

George has taught this in 70+ recorded sessions… and every claim in the full lesson links to the recording it came from. The full lesson covers far more than fits here.
