Why Every Futures Trader Needs a Trading Journal
The journal is a mirror. It inspects and rewires the trader's mind… and writing it out honestly transforms you into the trader you were meant to be.
From the free MicrosTrader Trading Library… 140 lessons mined from 1,042 live ES and MES futures sessions taught since 2018.
A trading journal is a daily written record of your trades, your behavior, and your state of mind while day trading. Its real job goes far beyond logging entries and exits in ES E-mini futures or MES micro futures. The journal exists to inspect and rewire the trader's mind… you write out what you did, why you did it, where you followed your plan, and where you broke it. Done honestly, that writing changes who you are at the charts.
This page gathers everything George teaches about journaling across years of live futures trading room sessions… why writing works, how honesty powers it, what the journal reveals that memory hides, and why the traders who quit journaling always come crawling back.
“"This journal is not a scorecard. It is a mirror… not for the trades alone, but for the trader becoming."”

From George’s published record: ES & MES Futures Trade Plan #335 — a 20-point move, mapped in advance.
The Journal Is a Mirror
Most traders treat a journal like an accounting ledger. Wins here, losses there, tally at the bottom. George rejects that framing completely. The pages serve one reader… you. They exist to show you your own mind before that mind puts on the next trade.
The model comes straight from Marcus Aurelius. The emperor of Rome wrote his Meditations as private journal entries… a working manual for governing himself, penned in the stillness between battles. George gifted a copy of the book to every one of his stepsons one Christmas, and he named his journaling software after it. "Like Marcus Aurelius pinned his meditations in the stillness between battles, so too must we write" (May 26, 2025). A trader between sessions stands exactly where the emperor stood between campaigns. Quiet. Honest. Taking inventory.
“"These pages are not written for the market. They are written for the trader… the one who must govern his own mind before he acts."”
