How to Trail a Stop Loss: Protection Layers and Runner Management
Ratchet your stop behind Strong Levels, RTH lows, and stacked protection layers… so a runner survives the retest and the profit stays locked.
From the free MicrosTrader Trading Library… 140 lessons mined from 1,042 live ES and MES futures sessions taught since 2018.
Trailing a stop means moving it up behind price as your trade works, so you lock in profit while staying in the move. George trails to structure. Your stop rides behind the last Strong Level, the last RTH low, the last swing that price would have to break to prove you wrong. In ES E-mini futures, that structure is what keeps you in a 100-point runner instead of getting shaken out at the first pullback.
This page gathers everything George teaches about trailing a stop across hundreds of hours of live ES and MES micro futures trading… where to hide the stop, how to stack protection layers, how far to leave for a double tap, and when to hand a fast move over to a trailing stop order.
“"Now I trail behind the swing. Let the market do its thing. Trail that stop behind the swing. That's where grown up traders win."”

Stay Behind the Strong Level
Start here. This is George's most-repeated trailing rule, taught in session after session… keep your stop behind a Strong Level, with cushion. A Strong Level is a price zone that has already bounced, held, and proven it matters. Put your stop on the far side of that zone, and price has to break real structure to take you out.
Why does it hold? Because the level does the work for you. On April 9, 2026, George narrated a runner surviving a deep retest for exactly this reason… "I kept it behind the strong level. I kept it behind this trend line, and luckily that's what protected it". The stop sat where the market would defend it. It defended, and off the trade went.
“"Stay behind strong level. Stay behind strong level. Stay behind a strong level."”
