Liquidity Grabs & Stop Hunts: How ES Traps Traders Before the Real Move
How ES runs the stops below the lows, traps everyone on the wrong side, then squeezes way harder than it dropped.
From the free MicrosTrader Trading Library… 140 lessons mined from 1,042 live ES and MES futures sessions taught since 2018.
A liquidity grab is a stop hunt. Price flushes below a prior low (or above a prior high) to trigger the resting stop orders parked there, then reverses hard the other way. On ES E-mini futures, George treats this as the market's core habit. It traps traders on the wrong side, fills big institutional orders at a discount, then squeezes the trapped crowd for fuel.
This page gathers everything George teaches about liquidity grabs and stop hunts across hundreds of hours of live ES and MES micro futures trading… why they happen, how to read the reversal, the one counter-trade that hands you your head, and how magnets pull price toward untaken liquidity.
“"That's what ES does. It traps below the lows and then squeezes way more than it is short."”

What a Liquidity Grab Actually Is
Stops rest in predictable places. Just below yesterday's low. Under the overnight low. Beneath the London low or the Initial Balance. Every trader who went long parks a sell-stop there, and every trader waiting to short sees the same level. That pool of resting orders is the liquidity. Price reaches down, triggers it, and grabs it.
So the flush is manipulation with a purpose. Accumulate the orders resting under the low, often around a news event, then squeeze. George says it plainly… "I believe with my being, this is a manipulation move. And they often use news events to… And then they accumulate, and then squeeze" (Oct 18, 2025). ES knows where the stops are, and ES gets paid.
“"If you're an institution needing to make a large purchase, where's the best place to make a large purchase at a discount? Well, it's where the orders are."”
