Overnight Session Trading: How Asia, London & RTH Behave Differently

Three sessions, three personalities… learn the character of each and you stop getting run over overnight.

From the free MicrosTrader Trading Library… 140 lessons mined from 1,042 live ES and MES futures sessions taught since 2018.

The 24-hour ES futures day splits into three sessions with three distinct personalities. Asia sets a quiet range. London hunts the liquidity above and below that range. Then the New York regular trading hours session (RTH) arrives with the real volume and decides where price actually goes. Read each session's character and you know what to expect before the candle even forms.

This page gathers what George teaches about the overnight session across hundreds of hours of live ES E-mini futures and MES micro futures trading… the London sweep, why low-volume overnight levels fold under RTH power, and the exact times of day you should never force a trade.

“"What is the nature of the London session? The nature of the London session is it takes both sides of Asia. Just does it like clockwork."”

ES futures Battle Plan chart from George’s published record

From George’s published record: Micros Trade Plan #325 — a 50-point move, mapped in advance.

London Takes Both Sides of Asia

Start with the most reliable pattern in the overnight session. Asia trades a range and sets a high and a low. London opens and goes hunting. It reaches for the liquidity resting above Asia's high, then swings and grabs the liquidity below Asia's low. George watches it happen night after night.

What does that mean for you at the chart? If you find yourself long or short at an extreme edge of the Asia range during London, get ready. A reversal to the opposite side is the base case.

“"It typically takes out Asia's high and Asia's low. If you were trading during London and you're at an extreme edge of the Asia, you'd better be ready for there to be a reversal move to go to the other side."”
