One Fill Out of Three… Manage It, Then Let It Go
Posted: Friday October 23, 2026
Happy Friday. ES finally dropped into the deeper part of Battle Plan 3 before the open… and George is long as we speak. Three orders lined up, only one filled, and that leaves the real question in today's MES micro futures trade plan. Now what do you do? This briefing walks through how to manage a runner in futures when the fill is small and the move is working… breakeven, follow at 50%, then let it go. Plus why NQ needs to go a little lower, and Friday rules on steroids with news right after the open and FOMC week ahead.
Battle Plan 3… The Deeper Part Finally Showed Up
The Battle Plan notes were clear. We dipped our toe into this trade earlier with a nice ladder back. And if it came again, George would be happy to take it… especially if price explored the deeper part of the Battle Plan.
Okay, so that's what we did. We explored the deeper part of Battle Plan 3. If you're in the group, you certainly had a little opportunity here.
Trader Lesson 1
Know where you want the trade before the open. The Battle Plan notes said take this trade again, especially if price explored the deeper part of Battle Plan 3. Price got there… and gave a nice 8 point reaction.
One more thing. George is paper trading this one with the Chart Commander software. He's giving it the full test today, with lots to show members on how it might be wired up for live trading. He gave the deeper part of Battle Plan 3 a little paper trade two pointer to give it as much effort as possible.
Three Orders, One Fill… Now What Do You Do?
George had 3 orders lined up. It only got him into one. So now what? You have a few choices, and all of them are simple.
- Breakeven: Take your stop to basically breakeven, or capture commissions.
- Follow at 50%: Price is up about 8 points. Move the stop up to capture half the distance if you want to.
- Let it go: That would be like Elsa. There's nothing to do now.
Trader Lesson 2
Three orders lined up and only one filled? Take your stop to basically breakeven or capture commissions… and let it go. There's nothing to do now.
Trader Lesson 3
You can follow at 50%. Up about 8 points? Move your stop up to capture half the distance. Worst case is breakeven, best case you capture half the move… it's up to you how you manage your runner.
If You're Long, Try to Stay Long
What do I know? This could be the move that takes us to an all time high. If you're in it, make sure you're capturing a part of this move.
It's been given every opportunity to work out… it's not looking that great, is it? That doesn't mean you can't be long. A nice reaction off the level, a nice 8 point move.
Trader Lesson 4
If you're long, try to stay long. This could be the move that takes us to an all time high… make sure you're capturing a part of it.
NQ Needs to Go a Little Lower
George lines up NQ with ES, and his eyeballs say NQ has a little further to go down. He's got a very important line on it. Here's what he sees.
- Downward sloping VWAPs: We all have downward sloping VWAPs right now.
- Lower distribution: If that gets taken out, price heads further down to a deeper Battle Plan mapping.
- Daily trend line lost: NQ has completely lost its daily trend line.
- Next bounce area: The next area NQ could bounce might offer us all some support… and it triangulates with one of the Battle Plan levels. Trades all the better.
Trader Lesson 5
Want back in? If price goes to a deeper part of the Battle Plan again and gives a laddered back sequence, George will be interested in it again.

COMMON QUESTIONS FOR ES FUTURES TRADERS
What should you do when only one of your three ladder orders fills in ES futures?
A: Manage the one you have. On Friday, October 23, George had 3 orders lined up at the deeper part of Battle Plan 3 and only one filled. Take your stop to basically breakeven or capture commissions, then let it go. There's nothing to do now.
What does follow at 50% mean in futures trading?
A: Following at 50% means moving your stop up to capture half the distance price has traveled in your favor. On this ES futures trade, price was up about 8 points, so following at 50% locks in about half of that move while the runner stays open.
Should you stay long ES futures when price bounces off a key level?
A: If you're long, try to stay long. George's take on October 23… this could be the move that takes ES to an all time high, so make sure you're capturing a part of it. Even when a trade isn't looking that great, it doesn't mean you can't be long after a nice 8 point reaction off the level.
Why should ES futures traders watch NQ?
A: NQ can show you where ES support might come from, so George lines the two charts up. On October 23, NQ had completely lost its daily trend line, with downward sloping VWAPs and a lower distribution. He thinks NQ has a little further to go down, and its next bounce area triangulates with one of the Battle Plan levels on ES.
When should you get back into an ES futures trade after it already worked?
A: George's rule today… if price goes to a deeper part of the Battle Plan again and gives a laddered back sequence, he will be interested in it again.
What is a ladder back in futures trading?
A: A ladder back is MicrosTrader's term for a sequential reentry or scaling sequence into a mapped level. The Battle Plan notes for October 23 said the earlier ladder back into this trade was a nice one, and George would take it again… especially at the deeper part of the Battle Plan.
What is the Battle Plan for ES futures?
A: The Battle Plan is MicrosTrader's tiered daily trade plan for ES and MES futures, with numbered levels mapped the night before. Battle Plan 3 was the level in play on October 23, and the notes called for taking the trade again if price explored its deeper part.
What is on the calendar for ES futures traders during FOMC week?
A: For the week of October 26, Monday has nothing. Tuesday is the day before FOMC. Wednesday is the show. Then Thursday and Friday round out the month into November.
How do you manage a runner in MES micro futures once it's working?
A: Take your stop to basically breakeven or capture commissions, or follow at 50% and move the stop up to capture half the distance. Worst case is breakeven. Best case, you capture half the move. It's up to you how you manage your runner… then let it go.
