The Canary In The Coal Mine: Failure Signals That Warn a Move Is Ending

The failure signals that warn a move is ending… what each side fails to do tells you control is shifting before structure ever confirms it.

From the free MicrosTrader Trading Library… 140 lessons mined from 1,042 live ES and MES futures sessions taught since 2018.

A failure signal is what one side of the market tries to do and can't. Bulls fail to grab an obvious high. Bears fail to make a new low. A hot level gets tapped and nothing happens. In ES E-mini futures, these small failures are your earliest read on shifting control… they show up before any structure break confirms the turn. George calls the loudest of them the canary in the coal mine.

This page gathers what George teaches about reading failure across hundreds of hours of live ES and MES micro futures sessions. The obvious high nobody grabbed. The new low the bears never made. The sluggish tap at a level that should have exploded. Each one is a piece of evidence about who really controls the tape.

“"I told the group is the canary in the coal mine that we did not take the RTH high and overnight high."”

Read What Each Side Fails to Do

Price action is a contest. One side pushes, the other answers. To read control, watch the thing a side couldn't pull off. When the bears drive lower and the buyers refuse to hand over the RTH low, that failure is the tell. Strength lives in what the other side could not do.

It cuts both ways. On October 14, 2025, George read the sellers as broadly in charge, then flagged the crack in their story… "The bears control in my opinion, but they didn't grab this RTH low." A side that owns the tape takes the obvious liquidity. When it skips that liquidity, someone else is wrangling control away from them. That is the whole game: who controls the market, read one failure at a time.

“"What couldn't the bears do here? That once again signifies strength of the bulls. What couldn't they do? They couldn't take this RTH low. It couldn't take that RTH low. Monster move up. Bulls, baby bulls."”
