Trading with House Money: Profit Cushion Rules

Banked points buy freedom. The profit cushion rules that decide when you can afford a speculative trade… and when you Stand Down.

From the free MicrosTrader Trading Library… 140 lessons mined from 1,042 live ES and MES futures sessions taught since 2018.

Trading with house money means risking profits you have already earned, never fresh capital. Bank points early in the week and those points become your cushion. That cushion is the only thing that justifies a speculative or counter-trend trade in ES E-mini futures. No cushion, no shot. When you're at break even, the marginal trade simply is not worth the risk.

This page gathers everything George teaches about the profit cushion across hundreds of hours of live ES and MES micro futures trading… how the cushion is built, what it buys you, the weekly floor you refuse to break, and the exact math he runs before he risks a single point.

“"It's a little different when you're really up nicely for the week and you're like, I've got a few points I can play with."”

Bet With the House's Money

Start with the core idea. Casinos win because the house plays with an edge and the gambler plays with rent money. Flip it. Get up nicely for the week and now you play with the house's money. Those banked points came out of the market. Risk them and a loss barely stings.

Same trade, same location, two different answers. Up 15 points, he takes it. Break even, he passes. The chart didn't change. The cushion did. And the cushion has to be real before you lean on it… "if it's your first trade of the day, you got to be careful on that kind of stuff" (Nov 9, 2025). Early in the session you're risking capital. Later, once you've banked, you're risking winnings. Treat those two situations differently or your position sizing will hurt you.

“"If I'd have been up, let's say 15 points from this move, I would have taken it with a three or four point stop loss. But I was break even, so it wasn't worth the risk for me."”
