The plan was longs only. Price rotated back to the top of the range right into the close… range traders trading the range well.
1:57 Battle Plan 1 Continuation Add-On
Battle Plan 1 is a continuation add-on at the top of the high time frame range. Only add if you were long from below and held overnight.

A new dollar-sign add-on tool is live in Chart Buddy and Chart Commander. Mark entry and add-on to see combined break-even and combined stop.
5:41 Keep Your Combined Stop Behind Structure
Use the tool to check if your combined stop sits behind structure, like under the overnight low. If not, adjust where you add on.

Roughly 80 points from yesterday's long with a lotto runner still on. Complete the Battle Plan 1 mapping and it becomes a 100 pointer.

The Opex Friday Trap: When Standing Down Is the Trade

Posted: Friday October 16, 2026

☀️ AM BRIEFING

This is AM Briefing #877 and it lands on Opex Friday… a day the market tends to move somewhere early and then sit there for hours. Yesterday's plan called for longs only and it paid, roughly 80 points, with a lotto runner still working toward a 100 pointer if price completes the Battle Plan 1 mapping. The ES is laddering up into the top of the high time frame range, right at the Bull Bear Line, a juncture that cuts both ways. The coaching today is blunt… this is historically a day that has hurt traders, so protecting a green week matters more than forcing a trade. Standing down is a real decision, and on Opex Friday it is often the best one.

WHY OPEX FRIDAY IS A TRAP

Today is Option Expiration Friday… OPEX, with "parting rules on steroids." These are the sessions where the expected range balloons and price likes to lurch to a spot and then camp there for the rest of the day. That makes it one of the worst days of the year to go hunting for action in ES futures.

George was direct about it. Over years of watching traders, this specific day has hurt more of them than most. The honest edge today is restraint. If you have a strong green week behind you, there is nothing wrong with taking the 3-day weekend and locking it in.

If you highlighted an amazing green week, you do not need to trade this today. Go enjoy your green. If a great setup shows up, you take it small, with a small stop, and you go. Otherwise… Stand Down.

Trader Lesson 1

On Opex Friday, standing down is the trade. Protecting a green week beats forcing action on a day built to punish size.

YESTERDAY'S LONG IS STILL WORKING

The plan was longs only. Price was a long way from target, but that target was the rotation back to the top end of the range… and we are range traders who know how to trade ranges really, really well. Price got there right into the end.

That leaves you roughly 80 points in on yesterday's long with a lotto runner still on. If price completes the Battle Plan 1 mapping at the top of the high time frame range, that runner becomes a 100 pointer. At this very moment there is not a whole lot to do but hold and watch.

  • The target was structural: the top of the range, not a random number. You mapped the board, then let price come to you.
  • The runner is already paid: with 80 points banked in the trade, the lotto runner is pure house money reaching for the 100.

Trader Lesson 2

Let a mapped runner work. When the board is already drawn and the trade is in profit, you hold the lotto runner for the 100 pointer instead of grabbing at it early.

BATTLE PLAN 1: THE CONTINUATION ADD-ON

Battle Plan 1 today is a continuation trade. If you were long from below, this is a good place to have on your winning trade, up at the Strong Levels marking the top of the high time frame range. Price went from the bottom of the range to the top.

This is strictly an add-on for traders who are already holding. In the overnight session you got the pop, you got the pullback, and if you had the add-on on you were still holding it. If you are not already long and holding overnight, you ignore this entry. You do not chase the top of the range fresh.

NEW TOOL: THE ADD-ON DOLLAR-SIGN TOOL

There is a new add-on tool live right now in Chart Buddy and Chart Commander, approved by the Chrome store. It shows up as a little dollar sign you activate on your chart. Its job is to make laddering and adding to a trade visual, so you can see exactly what your position looks like after an add-on.

You click where you went long to set the entry, then drag up to where you added on. The tool draws three things for you:

  • The entry: your original long price.
  • The combined break-even: where the whole position sits flat after the add-on.
  • The combined stop: where a stop on the full position lands, and how many points it would capture or risk.

Double-click the tool for advanced adjustments… toggle between ES and MES, set how many contracts you added, and set a target number of points. Change the contract count and the combined break-even and combined stop move with it. You can slide the line side to side to test different scenarios.

The real reason for the tool is structure. With your add-on placed, you ask one question… is my combined stop behind structure? If you added at Battle Plan 1 on the Strong Levels, your combined stop might sit a couple points under the overnight low. The tool tells you instantly whether that stop is protected or exposed, so you can adjust where you add on before you ever place the trade.

Trader Lesson 3

Before you add to a winner, check that your combined stop sits behind structure, under the overnight low or a key level. If it does not, move where you add on, not where you stop out.

THE BULL BEAR LINE JUNCTURE

Look at the four pack and you see price seemingly laddering up, but we are at a very important juncture. The warning from last night stands… if we crater back into this range and slam back through the Bull Bear Line, the move down can be pretty vicious, running price back toward the bottom.

There is a short outline for exactly that scenario, and it lives in your Battle Plan indicator. George wants to see a bit more confirmation before leaning on it, but the map is drawn both ways. Up through the Strong Levels and the runner completes… back through the Bull Bear Line and the short plan is live.

If you are here for the love of price action, have your platform closed. Watch first. If we get a great setup, maybe you take it with a small stop and go.

"This is a great day to take off… if you highlighted an amazing green week, you don't really need to trade this today. Go ahead and enjoy your green."

❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

COMMON QUESTIONS FOR ES FUTURES TRADERS

Why is Opex Friday considered dangerous for day traders?

A: OPEX stands for Option Expiration, and on expiration Fridays the positioning rules intensify. The expected range widens and price tends to lurch to a level early and then sit there for the rest of the session. That combination has historically hurt traders who need constant action, which is why many experienced traders simply stand down and protect their week.

What does Stand Down mean in the Micros Trader system?

A: Stand Down is the command to not trade when conditions do not favor you. It treats sitting on your hands as an active, disciplined decision rather than a failure to act. On a day like Opex Friday, declining dangerous price action protects both your capital and your mindset for the sessions that actually pay.

What is Battle Plan 1 and when should I use the continuation trade?

A: Battle Plan refers to the tiered daily ES levels Micros Trader maps the night before, numbered from BP1 up. Today Battle Plan 1 sits at the top of the high time frame range and is a continuation add-on… it is only for traders already long from below who want to add to a winning trade. If you are not already holding, you ignore it rather than chase the top of the range.

What is a lotto runner?

A: A lotto runner is a speculative, low-probability piece of a position you leave on after the main targets are hit, hoping for an extended move. Because the core trade is already banked, the runner risks very little while reaching for a large payoff. Here, with roughly 80 points already in the trade, the runner is hunting a 100 pointer at Battle Plan 1.

How does the new add-on tool help me manage a trade?

A: The add-on tool, now live in Chart Buddy and Chart Commander, lets you mark your entry and your add-on so it can draw your combined break-even and combined stop. You can toggle ES or MES, set your contract count, and set a target in points. Its main value is showing whether your combined stop sits behind structure before you commit to the add-on.

What does it mean to keep my stop behind structure?

A: Behind structure means placing your stop on the far side of a meaningful level, such as a couple points under the overnight low or below a Strong Level, so normal price noise does not knock you out. If your combined stop after an add-on is not protected by structure, the fix is to change where you add on, not to widen the stop into open space.

Why was the plan only looking for longs?

A: The map called for a rotation back to the top end of the range, so the high-probability side was long from the bottom toward that target. Micros Trader trades ranges by buying the lower edge and targeting the upper edge rather than fighting the move. The bias stays long until price shows it has failed, at which point the short outline in the Battle Plan comes into play.

What happens if ES slams back through the Bull Bear Line?

A: The Bull Bear Line is the key level dividing bullish and bearish control. If price craters back into the range and breaks back through it, the move lower can be vicious, carrying price toward the bottom of the range. A short outline for that exact scenario is pre-mapped in the Battle Plan indicator, waiting on a bit more confirmation before it is pressed.
